Ponds and Water Features
Ponds and water features can be quite complex so it is best to plan them and construct them well and is best
undertaken by a professional. Both concrete and liner ponds should be constructed away from large trees both
for there leave drop into the ponds and the damage the roots can do over time.
When setting up your ecosystem in your ponds and water features make sure you don’t have excess water run off into the pond and don’t let excess organic matter sit in the pond or the ecosystem will become unbalanced. Also having too many fish in our pond and the wrong type of plants will adversely affect your balance and algae will take over.
So Brendan would say the key to a successful water feature would be to build them above ground level and with not to many leave dropping plants. But have some shade through out the day so the pond does not heat up so much. Size and depth of your pond is also important for instance make sure you have enough water in the lower pond to run the waterfall or it will empty when the power goes on and off.
